When Google first announced its new artificial intelligence-powered Allo messaging app—intended to be an improvement over its many previous attempts at messaging, including Hangouts, Gchat, and Wave—it was lauded as a major step forward for consumer privacy. Allo’s messageswould be encrypted, and an Incognito Mode option would offer end-to-end encryption. (Perhaps Google took a cue from Facebook, which added complete end-to-end encryptionon WhatsApp messages earlier this year, just after Apple’s tussle with the F.B.I. over privacy.) Allo would also offer expiring messages, a la Snapchat and the Mark Cuban-founded disappearing-message platform Cyber Dust.

On Wednesday, Google made its new messaging app, Allo, officially available. The app is distinct from Google’s past messaging efforts in that Allo includes an artificially intelligent assistant that is designed to help people with their conversations and searches for information.

Why Google is retooling search to put mobile first

The company is in the process of creating a new index for mobile devices, which will become the “primary” index for search, according to Google webmaster trends analyst Gary Illyes. This means searches from mobile devices will serve up the freshest results as Google will update its mobile index more frequently.

Google has previously discussed such plans but Illyes’ comments, which were reported by , are the first indication that the company plans to roll this out fairly soon.

A quick refresher on how Google Search works: Google’s bots crawl the web tracking more than 60 trillion web pages and the links within them. These pages are then categorized into a massive index based on hundreds of different factors. This index, along with a series of algorithms, enables Google to turn up relevant search results when you enter a query into the search box.

Allo was finally released earlier this week, much to my own excitement. Google’s latest messaging app seems pretty appealing in some regards and I am always willing to try something new. Thus far, I am enjoying it.

It seems that I am not alone. Allo is listed as number one in the Top Free Apps chart in the Play Store. That means it is beating Facebook/Messenger, Snapchat, and Instagram. It is mirroring its cousin, Duo, which also reached number one in the Top Free chart shortly after its release just over a month ago.

Не смотря на владение самой распространенной мобильной операционной системой [Android], Google так и не создал приличного месеенджера.

Blackberry использовался меньшим количеством людей, и все же канадская компания сумела превратить BBM в бренд и вид услуг, что каждый хотел установить на свой ​​телефон «, говорит Vishal Tripathi, principal analyst with Gartner.

Google Talk появился одновременно с операционкой, и все отмечали его простой интерфейс и мгновенность обмена сообщениями.
